Updated October 18, 2026 · 5 min read
The answer first. For most visitors the Vergina and Pella day trip is the one to book. It is a bus trip of 8.5 hours at €49.30 per person, with 4.7 stars from 887 reviews. If you want a shorter day with pickup anywhere in the city, the Aigai Royal Tombs and Pella Museum trip takes 5 hours and costs €110.
What the trips offer
| Tour | Length | From | Rating | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vergina and Pella day trip | 8.5 hours | €49.30 | 4.7 (887) | Bus trip into the kingdom of Philip II and Alexander the Great |
| Aigai Royal Tombs and Pella Museum day trip | 5 hours | €110 | 4.7 (62) | Private pickup from any location in Thessaloniki |
| Vergina Tombs, Agios Nikolaos Park and Edessa Waterfalls | 10 hours | €41.80 | 4.7 (86) | Vergina plus Edessa, no Pella |
| Vergina and Pella private day tour | 8 hours | €120 | 5.0 (7) | Private, footsteps of Alexander |
What you see
Vergina is the site of ancient Aigai, the first capital of Macedon, and its royal tombs are on the UNESCO list. The museum of the royal tombs is where you see the finds; one listing mentions the tomb of Philip II. Pella is the city the listings call the birthplace of Alexander the Great, and it has its own museum.
The 5-hour trip is the shorter one and picks you up at your address. The listing names the royal tombs and the Pella Museum, not the Pella excavation site, so if you want to walk through the ruins as well, check that on the booking page.
What to check before booking
Whether museum entry is included in the price, because the listings differ and some museums charge separately. Whether the bus trip’s 8.5 hours include a meal stop. What time the day starts and where it ends. Pella involves walking outdoors, so dress for the weather.
Which one
The €41.80 trip is the cheapest and adds Edessa’s waterfalls, but it leaves out Pella. If your interest is Alexander, take the €49.30 bus trip. If you hate group buses or want a hotel pickup, the 5-hour trip with pickup costs more than twice as much per person and has only 62 reviews. If it is waterfalls you want, see Edessa and Pozar.
Who should skip it
Skip it if ancient ruins and museums bore you. It is a history day, not a scenic one. For a day with nature and a swim, Dion and Olympus is the better pick.
Our recommendation
Book the Vergina and Pella day trip for most trips. It has the longest review record, covers both places and costs less than half of the private option. The full list is on the Vergina and Pella page.
